  • How can I get to Maastricht?
    Maastricht is located in the Netherlands and is close to the German and Belgian border. You can reach Maastricht easily by train from all areas of the Netherlands, Germany, and Belgium. Additionally, Flixbus serves various routes to and/or from Maastricht.
  • Why do I need to purchase a ticket?
    Since the expedition hackathon is a community event, we do not aim to make a profit. We use the ticket sale proceeds to invest in the event and improve your experience and the overall quality.
  • I have an issue related to my ticket?
    Please refer to this page. If you cannot find a solution to your problem, please contact our support through Discord or email.
  • Can I get a refund if I cannot make it to the event.
    No. To prevent no-shows, we cannot give you a refund. This way, we ensure teams are full and can compete fairly against other teams.
  • Is there a deadline to register?
    No. However, we only have a limited number of places available so make sure to get your ticket on time.
  • Do I get a certificate after participation?
    Yes. We'll provide you with a certificate of participation. We will also issue this certificate as an NFT on the Polygon blockchain.
  • What are the different types of tickets?
    Regular These tickets provide you with a spot in the hackathon and an invitation to the Expedition Afterparty. Premium These tickets provide you with a spot in the hackathon and an invitation to the Expedition Afterparty. In addition, you will receive an expedition hackathon t-shirt and a unique digital collectible, which provides a key to a unique community of like-minded individuals. Group Regular and Premium group tickets include the same as their individual variants. When buying a group ticket, you will be automatically placed in a group together. Group tickets are available at a 20% discount compared to individual tickets.
  • How can I stay connected with the hackathon community?
    We are currently building a community of like-minded explorers. The hackathon is our first large-scale community event, which will be partly run via our Discord. Here, you can connect with our team, other participants, and explorers. Join our Discord here.
  • Can I participate as an individual, or do I need a team?
    You do not need a team and can participate as an individual. We will assign you to a team. If you buy an individual ticket, you can provide us with the name of another participant, and we will try to place you in the same group. Please note: you can only buy a group ticket for five people, and everyone will be automatically placed in a group together,
  • Can I continue working on my project after the hackathon?
    Yes. We do not claim any intellectual property. However, travel tech can be complicated. If you decide to continue working on your project, please let us know so we can discover collaboration opportunities.
  • Is the hackathon virtual, in-person, or hybrid?
    The hackathon itself will be held in person. However, we will kick off the event a day before through Discord. After this kick-off, you can connect with your teammates on a dedicated Discord channel. Join our Discord here.
  • How do I find teammates if I don’t have a team?
    We'll place you in a team where you can best use your skillset. You will be added to a dedicated Discord channel with your team during the kick-off a day before the hackathon. Here, you can connect with your team. Join our Discord here.

  • What is the theme or focus of the hackathon?
    You can work on three different challenges related to travel tech. However, you are not limited to only working on one challenge. You can decide to build a solution that covers multiple challenges. Together, we built the future of travel.
  • Do I need to have a technical background to participate?
    No. We believe the best ideas come from combining various disciplines and skills. So whether you are a developer, marketeer, accountant, or designer, we invite you to build the future of travel together.
  • Is there a required tech stack?
    You are free to choose any programming language, framework, and tools. However, we highly recommend using the tech stack below so our mentors can help you in the best way possible. Additional resources will be made available for this tech stack. If you are an experienced blockchain developer looking to use a different EVM blockchain, please let a team member know. We do not support non-EVM blockchains.
  • Can I have an AI team member?
    Yes. We encourage it. Although AI cannot replace cognitive intelligence (for now), AI can help your team to develop faster and better. Besides the standard AI models such as ChatGPT, we highly recommend Cursor for development.
  • What is the size of a team?
    Teams consist of 5 participants. Participants are randomly assigned to a team except for group ticket holders.
